Munich Prize for New Drama

If you are a playwright, you can apply for a sponsorship award for new drama.

Description

The Cultural Department of the City of Munich, Drei Masken Verlag and the Münchner Kammerspiele are organising the Munich Prize for New Drama. The prize money awarded by the Edith and Werner Rieder Foundation amounts to 20,000 euros.

Procedure
In the run-up to the awarding of the Munich New Playwriting Prize, a jury will nominate up to five authors from among the applicants who will be invited to Munich for an author residency. This residency serves to develop a new writing project in dialogue with the Kammerspiele and ends with the award ceremony as part of the Long Night of New Drama at the Kammerspiele in June 2025.
The Münchner Kammerspiele will present the plays nominated for the prize as part of workshop productions at the Long Night of New Drama. In the following season, they plan to premiere the play on which the prizewinner worked at the Residenz.

Prize money/options
The prize money for the Munich New Playwriting Award is 20,000 euros. In addition, the Residenz will provide an endowment of EUR 3,500 per author or nominated collective. The Münchner Kammerspiele will receive a time-limited première option on all plays nominated for the prize. In addition, accommodation in Munich will be provided for the candidates nominated for the prize.

Drei Masken Verlag will offer the prizewinners admission to the publishing house. The award ceremony is planned for June 2025 at a LANGE NACHT DER NEUEN DRAMATIK as part of the programme focus "Neue Zeit, Neue Dramatik" at the Münchner Kammerspiele.
