Description

The "Stipendium Interkulturelles / Internationales" offers cultural workers, curators and artists the opportunity to further develop and maintain international and intercultural networks.

Funding is provided in particular for

  • Networking, contact and working meetings with intercultural or international institutions, artists, relevant actors, etc., provided that an expression of interest from the other side is available
  • Research projects with intercultural, international or transcultural themes, including research trips to archives, museums, documentation sites, etc., especially those with additional opportunities for exchange on site
    International professional development such as job shadowing or working visits with a high level of cooperative exchange
  • Participation in intercultural / international network meetings or international professional exchanges

At least part of the scholarship must take place abroad.

The scholarships are advertised biennially. The next call for applications will take place in 2025.

Prerequisites

Cultural professionals, curators or artists from all cultural fields who live or work in Munich (S-Bahn area) are eligible to apply.

The focus of this scholarship is on a high degree of intercultural and international exchange at eye level. Different perspectives and points of view should be incorporated into the consideration of specific cultural topics. Further assessment criteria are sustainability of networking, degree of innovation, approach and feasibility, positioning of the applicant in the diverse urban society and added value for Munich's cultural landscape.

The following applies if a grant is awarded:

  • The scholarship amount will be transferred by November 2024 at the latest after the account details have been provided. A later payment is not possible.
  • The project must be completed by April 2025 at the latest.
  • Scholarship holders must submit a factual report at the end of the programme and take part in an evaluation of the scholarship.

  • Artistic CV in tabular form, maximum 1 page
  • Detailed and concrete description of the project to be made possible by the scholarship, maximum 2 pages

    • What goals do you hope to achieve with the project?
    • What are your planned steps for realising the project?
    • What is your timetable for the project?
    • Which other bodies, people or organisations are involved?
    • What is the relevance or significance of the project for Munich?
  • If your registered place of residence is not in Munich, proof that your work is centred in Munich
  • If you are planning a cooperative exchange, an expression of interest from the other organisations (letter of intent)

Optional

  • Details of your personal background (biography, previous knowledge, experience, ...)
  • artistic portfolio or presentation of past intercultural or international projects, maximum 3 pages

By submitting their application, applicants agree to the terms and conditions of the competition. Incomplete applications or applications received after the application deadline cannot be considered.

Duration & Costs

Processing time

All valid applications are submitted to the jury convened by the City Council. It will make a selection and recommend the selected applicants to the City Council. The final decision will be made by the City Council in the Culture Committee (in February). The applicants will then be notified.

Questions & Answers

Specific project realisations are not funded. Research and preparatory work for cultural projects with international partners can be carried out as part of the scholarship, but not their realisation. Please use the regular project funding programme for this. Likewise, meetings within already funded measures, projects within the framework of a degree programme, projects accompanying lessons, internships or work stays bound by instructions are not funded. No commercial or charity projects will be funded.

In principle, yes, if it is part of personal research and networking work. Network meetings and professional exchanges are possible as part of the grant.

Cultural work that is dedicated to exchange and networking with people from different backgrounds and perspectives, building on references that go beyond Munich. Your own international history can also be incorporated here. A thematic focus can also be set, such as cultural heritage, realities of the diaspora, migration, intercultural opening et cetra.

Such a production is possible as a supplement to your research, but it cannot be the main objective of your scholarship project. The focus here is on exchange and networking as well as personal development.

No, not in the sense of a contractual or paid employment or other activities bound by instructions. If you have the opportunity to gain an insight into an organisation/institution as part of your networking or research work or as part of a collegial exchange, this is possible.

Yes, absolutely. The scholarship should also be accessible to those who have not yet gained much experience in an intercultural or international context.

No. However, the scope of the project should be clear from the description and the specific steps listed there. Your own working time should also be recognised with the grant.

The mandatory documents must be submitted in German. The documents listed under "Optional" can be submitted in English or with an English translation.
