If you are a musician, the City of Munich will provide you with financial support for rented music rehearsal rooms.

Description

You can send your application to the Cultural Department by e-mail or, in exceptional cases, by post.

If you send your application by post, the date of receipt is valid and not the postmark. As the documents cannot be returned, we ask that you only submit copies of sound recordings if you send them by post.

Please send your application by e-mail to the e-mail address below. Please refer to the detailed information on the application procedure in the information sheet on the call for applications for rental subsidies for music rehearsal rooms.

If you share a room with other people or ensembles, only the main tenant can apply.

In the case of ensembles, the person listed as the main tenant in the tenancy agreement submits the application.

The amount of the grant for a music rehearsal room is based on the size of the rented usable space of the room according to the following staggered scheme:

Rented usable area of the rehearsal room:

  • up to 15 square metres: 128 euros subsidy per month
  • up to 30 square metres: 158 euros subsidy per month
  • up to 60 square metres: 216 euros subsidy per month
  • over 60 square metres: 274.50 euros subsidy per month

The support for musicians through this rent subsidy is limited to three years.

The next tender for the period from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2029 will take place at the end of 2025 / beginning of 2026.

Prerequisites

Musicians from Munich (as individuals or ensembles) whose work is demonstrably centred in Munich can apply for a rent subsidy. The residence and the rented rehearsal room must be located in the MVV area. Permanent ensembles can apply if they have been in existence for at least one year.

Professional musicians will be considered.

Required documents

  • Fully completed application form
  • Curriculum vitae (education, concerts, prizes, scholarships, maximum one DIN A4 page)
  • Examples of musical work (copies only): Sound recordings or links, reviews, press reports, letters of recommendation, letters of interest, tour plans
  • (Proof of residence must be provided on request, the rehearsal room can be visited if required)
  • Proof of professionalism: If available, a state-recognised degree certificate or free proof based on examples of musical work

Legal basis

All formally correct and complete applications are submitted to the jury convened by the City Council. It makes a pre-selection based on artistic quality criteria and recommends the selected applicants to the City Council. The final decision will be made by the City Council in the Culture Committee. The selected musicians will be notified promptly.
